Basic EMDR Training Course - Part 1
EMDR Lebanon Association proudly organized its first training course for experienced psychologists to be trained in a psychotherapy approach called EMDR therapy. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and it is very effective in treating people who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other psychological disorders caused by traumas and negative life experiences.
This training course is titled “Basic EMDR Training Course”, and it is made up of 2 parts and 10 hours group consultation. The first part of the Basic EMDR Training Course, a 4-days workshop, took place in Le Commodore Hotel, Beirut, from the 18th to the 21st of May 2013. It was presented in the Arabic language by the only accredited EMDR trainer in the Arab World, Mrs. Mona Zaghrout from Palestine. She was accompanied by a team of 3 facilitators: Mr. Mohamad Mahajneh, Mrs. Ibtisam Adileh, and Mrs. Lama Odeh. The EMDR trainer and the 3 facilitators are volunteers from East Jerusalem YMCA Rehabilitation Program and they are all working in different areas of Palestine. This workshop was supported by EMDR HAP USA and it was partially funded by “Week of Compassion through Global Ministries” and “East Jerusalem YMCA Rehabilitation Program”.
Twenty-three psychologists took Part 1, 22 Lebanese and one Syrian. Some work in NGOs with refugees and with underprivileged children and adults, and others work in hospitals and private clinics with people from different socio-economic status. Those new EMDR trainees would have to practice using EMDR therapy on a small scale in order to take the next Group Supervision workshop.
